Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the most important ligament in the knee for knee stability. It is in the middle of the knee and prevents the shin bone from sliding out in front of the thigh bone. ACL tears normally occur when a person suddenly changes direction or turns heavily on the knee, such as when playing football or basketball. Common symptoms of a torn ACL are as follows:
Symptoms
- A popping sound at the time of injury.
- A sudden swelling of the knee or within a few hours of injury.
- Pain when you try to put weight on the injured leg.
Treating a torn ACL reduces the risk of future degenerative damage to the knee joint. ACL tears are treatable using minimally-invasive surgical techniques. This advanced surgical techniques have resulted in less pain, fewer complications, and faster recovery time.
