Leukemia
Leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood characterized by an abnormal increase of immature white blood cells .It starts in the bone marrow, the soft tissue inside most bones.
Etiology
Leukemia still has unknown cause, but there are certain factors that raises your chance of getting a disease, environmental factors like smoking, exposure to large amount of radiation and harmful chemicals in workplace, sometimes we consider genetic factors.
Signs and Symptoms

Different types of Leukemia
Acute lymphocytic leukemia – Type of cancer that causes the body to produce large numbers of white blood cells (lymphocytes). Most common type of leukemia in young children.
Acute myeloid leukemia – A cancer of bone marrow in which hematopoietic precursors are arrested in an early stage of development . Occurs commonly in adults and more commonly in men than women.
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia – A type of cancer that starts from white blood cells in the bone marrow. It then invades the blood. Most often affects adults over the age of 55. It sometimes occurs in younger adults.
Chronic myeloid leukemia – I s a cancer of the blood forming cells called myeloid cells, found in bone marrow , an increase in the number of white blood cells. It occurs mainly in adults and a very small number of children also develop this disease
Treatments
Chemotherapy – The treatment of cancer with an antineoplastic drug or with a combination of such drugs into a standardized treatment regimen , these drugs reach all areas of your body through your bloodstream .
Targeted Therapy Is a new treatment method with a combination of specific drug for cancer cells and antineoplastic drugs into treatment regimen. The specific drug will attach to cancer cells and induce cell apoptosis. This treatment is used in chronic myeloid Leukemia.
Bone Marrow Transplant- a relatively new medical procedure being used to treat diseases once thought incurable , used to treat patients diagnosed with leukemia, aplastic anemia, and a lot more.
