Nowadays, there are several technologies for vision correction that are convenient, less time consuming, safe, and effective. These technologies for vision correction are recommended for people who don’t want to wear glasses or contact lenses.
The treatment options for vision correction include;
- Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK): This is a type of refractive eye surgery that is suitable for people who have dry eye or thin corneas. During the surgery, the eye surgeon will scrap the cornea’s outer layer with the special equipment or chemical, and then uses the excimer laser to reshape the cornea. The contact lens is then placed on the eye to cover the cornea, but when the cornea is well recovered, the contact lens will be removed.
- Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK): This type of refractive eye surgery can also correct the nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During the eye surgery, the eye surgeon uses the microkeratome to lift the cornea’s outer layer, and then use the excimer laser to reshape the cornea’s middle layer. The cornea’s outer layer is then placed back to its position.
- Femtosecond – LASIK (FemtoLASIK): This type of refractive eye surgery is a bladeless technique of LASIK because the laser will be used in every step. The cornea’s outer layer will be lifted by using femtosecond laser, and then reshape the cornea’s middle layer with the excimer laser. FemtoLASIK has high precision and safe which allows the patient to have a faster recovery.
