CRT-D Heart Packemaker Implant: Patient Success Story

This is a translated transcript of a patient’s testimonial that was obtained from Mr. Bhagawan Ratna Tuladhar who underwent a surgical procedure for Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator (CRT-D) implant in July 2018. The surgery was carried out by Dr. Pariwat Pengkaew.

Namaskar! My name is Bhagawan Ratna Tuladhar. I am a retired university teacher. Nowadays I am busy writing books and pursuing social works.

I have high blood pressure and heart problems. So, I went to New Delhi, India for bypass surgery. I got somewhat relieved, but the relief lasted for only a few months. Six months ago, it was too cold in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was tough for me to sleep and breathe. So, I went to some hospitals in Kathmandu for a checkup. Doctors provided some treatment, but it didn’t work well.

Then my daughter and son-in-law called me for the treatment in Bangkok. Then, I came here, and they consulted many doctors and hospitals. Moreover, they found that Vejthani Hospital is the best in terms of both financing and proficiency. Also, I agreed too.

When I came here, Roshan ji helped me a lot in communicating with Thai doctors. Being a foreigner, it was tough to communicate as the Thai language was mostly used here. But English fluent doctors and nurses are also here. The thing that I liked about this hospital was the care and love given to the patient by the doctors and nurses. The hospital checks the whole body of the patient and tells the patient where the defect is which is lacking in Nepal.

My problem was about the heart and lungs. They pointed out my problems showing me X-rays and videos. Doctors consulted my family about the surgery and implantation in my heart and suggested that the method was best and that the pacemaker will last about 8 to 10 years and it can be recharged after that.

After that, we went to home and discussed among our family members. We took the decision to do the operation in Vejthani. I did not know how much time it took during the procedure as I was unconscious. I heard that it took 2 to 2.5 hours. I did not know what they did but I felt the same as I was before the surgery.

I didn’t get any pain and problems – just there is a bandage over the surgery area. There are no other changes than that. I am feeling very better now. My pulse was very low, less than 50 but now it is 70. Doctors told it is a very good progress. I am very glad and happy. I am thankful to everyone.

It is not so easy to come abroad. We were totally unaware of the hospital in Kathmandu. There is a lack of publicity about Vejthani Hospital in Nepal. My 3-4 friends also came to Bangkok for treatment. I want to suggest that the publicity of this hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal should be focused on as well.

As Vejthani is a very good hospital. As I am also the publicity influencer, I will recommend this hospital to the Nepalese people who have the same problem as mine. The checkup procedure is also easy here. It is easily accessible here. We consulted the doctors and they told us about the disease and planned to implant the modern pacemaker which is still not available in most of the countries, especially in Nepal. They suggested the specialists are also here.

My main problem was a heart attack and it’s so risky. I have felt about a 2-seconds of a heart attack, but when I heard if it lasts for 4-5 seconds there is a high chance of mortality, my family members were scared and worried. The solution to this problem was to implant that device which automatically checks the condition. And then you can live your life easily and do whatever you want. We agreed. My family helped me a lot. I have visited other 2-3 hospitals in Bangkok. They are also good but you know in a race, there is only one winner. In my pacemaker case, if I got a chance to refer anyone, without blinking my eyes I would refer to Vejthani hospital. I am very grateful.
