Successful Treatment for Kidney Failure through a Living Donor Kidney Transplant

Mr. Rashid, a 43-year-old man from Oman, traveled across multiple countries along with his sister in search of treatment for his end-stage kidney failure. But no places were able to give him the hope that he was looking for. Until he arrived at Vejthani Hospital with concerning symptoms of kidney failure, he had swollen legs and waste products in his blood.

“The expertise of the medical team at Vejthani and their advanced medical technologies gave me the confidence to finally pursue the treatment I’d been waiting for,” said Mr. Rashid.

Dr. Nataphut Boonvisuth, a nephrologist at Vejthani, evaluated Mr. Rashid. Given his relatively young age, Dr. Nataphut emphasized the benefits of kidney transplantation as the optimal treatment approach.

“There are four main treatment options for kidney failure,” explained Dr. Nataphut. “Hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, kidney transplantation, and conservative management.”

Dr. Nataphut elaborated on the advantages of kidney transplantation. “Transplants offer patients the highest quality of life and survival rates. Early intervention, particularly in younger patients like Mr. Rashid, leads to the best outcomes. Unlike hemodialysis, which requires frequent hospital visits for treatment, transplants allow for greater freedom and flexibility.”

Dr. Nataphut continued, “Transplantation means a longer life expectancy compared to Dialysis. Additionally, with a functioning kidney, dietary restrictions are significantly reduced, improving overall well-being. While regular medication is necessary, patients can enjoy a much less constrained lifestyle.”

Mr. Rashid underwent a successful preemptive kidney transplant, a procedure performed before Dialysis became necessary. Dr. Nataphut concluded, “Dialysis is a valuable treatment, but it cannot fully replicate a healthy kidney. Waste products can accumulate over time, increasing the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Preemptive Transplantation offers the best chance for long-term health and well-being, which is why it was the ideal choice for Mr. Rashid.

Mr. Rashid Al Habsi underwent a successful living-donor kidney transplant from his sister.
