Removal of Carotid Body Tumor Through Endovascular Surgery

Share:

Mrs. Tiruwor Wubishet Wedajo had suffered from a neck tumor for two years, causing swelling and headaches. After a thorough evaluation at Vejthani Hospital, Dr. Pongsakorn Pongsapas, a neurosurgeon, diagnosed the tumor as Paraganglioma, a carotid body tumor. Given its location near the vital blood vessel supplying the brain, the surgery was deemed high-risk. The surgery was done through an advanced endovascular approach to minimize complications. A minimal catheter was inserted into the tumor’s feeding vessel, effectively blocking its blood supply and reducing the risk of bleeding during surgery. This advanced procedure was performed in a Hybrid Operating Room (Hybrid-OR), ensuring utmost precision. This endovascular procedure facilitated Dr. Pongsakorn to remove the tumor entirely without causing nerve or vascular damage, which significantly minimized blood loss and complications.
