Vaccinations before travel to Thailand (reference from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

Vaccine Who Needs It? Why?
*Malaria Some travelers who may be spending a lot of time outside There is a risk of mosquito bites almost all year long all over Thailand.
Japanese Encephalitis Some travelers who may be staying in Thailand for a long time, or planning to travel around the country. There have been reports of transmissions in Northern Thailand, as well as the coastal areas of Southern Thailand.
Typhoid Most travelers, especially those planning to travel to rural areas or are adventurous eaters. There is a risk of contamination through food or water.
Hepatitis A Most travelers. There is a high risk of contamination through food or water.
Rabies Some travelers , especially those who will come into contact with a lot of animals Although rabies is not a major risk in Thailand, it can be found in some animals, especially street dogs and cats.
Hepatitis B Some travelers , especially those who plan to get tattoos or piercings while traveling in Thailand Hepatitis B is transmitted through sexual contact, as well as through contaminated needles and other blood products.
Cholera Some travelers There is a risk for contamination through food or water, especially in areas where there is an active transmission.
Yellow Fever Only people who are traveling from countries with a risk of yellow fever contamination. There is no risk of yellow fever contamination in Thailand. However, the government of Thailand requires proof of vaccination against yellow fever from all travelers who are coming from countries that have a risk of contamination.   • Dangerous communicable diseases according to the notification of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand

The Ministry of Public Health of Thailand requires the following dangerous communicable diseases: This is a highly contagious disease and can spread quickly. If you find someone who is or is suspected of having a dangerous communicable disease, please kindly communicate to the communicable disease control officer. And those who are or are suspected to be contagious or contact with the patient, it may be necessary to isolate the suspected person until medical proven that getting out of contagious stage for safety reasons.

Dangerous communicable diseases are as follows.

  1. Plague
  2. Smallpox
  3. Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever
  4. West Nile Fever
  5. Yellow fever
  6. Lassa fever
  7. Nipah virus disease
  8. Marburg virus disease
  9. Ebola virus disease-EVD
  10. Hendra virus disease
  11. Sever Acute Respiratory Syndrome-SARS
  12. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-MERS: Criteria for MERS screening are as follows: Fever with respiratory infections (such as coughing, sneezing, sore throat, dyspnea, and pneumonia) and come from the Middle East or risk areas within 14 days before illness.
  13. Extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis(XDR-TB)
  • Air transportation

Have flu-like symptoms with or without tuberculosis like symptoms such as prolonged cough, weight loss, night sweat, fatigue, fever, and chest pain for more than 2 weeks. We strongly advise you to not travel at this stage, and for them to continue treatment with their current care team until his symptoms have resolved completely.

Vejthani Hospital would like to suggest the following measures for your safety measures for your air travel during this pandemic period:

Short Flight

During the flight, take steps to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:

  • Wear a mask to keep your nose and mouth covered when in public settings.
  • Avoid close contact by staying at least 6 feet apart (about 2 arms’ length) from anyone who is not from your household.
  • Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol).

Long Flight

Similar to Short Flight plus:

  • Wearing mask all time during flight except during having meal
  • Remember to carry your current medications with you on board
  • During a long-distance flight of 4 hours or longer, deep vein thrombosis can occur as a result of this inactivity; make sure you get up and walk about regularly when permitted by the staff on the aircraft. Bend and stretch your legs and wiggle your feet at regular intervals (for example every 30 minutes) to encourage your circulation. (Also see https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/dvt/travel.html)
    • Consult with your doctor first if you have a higher risk of developing Deep Vein Thrombosis. Your doctor will help you to prepare some medications and instructions to lessen the risk of the disease.
  • For the individuals who would require Oxygen during flight, please request the airline in advance (3-5 days in advance) along with the recommendation from your doctor.

Ground transportation

Please check the latest information and changes to services and procedures with the local authorities prior to your travel.

– Wear Face Mask at all times.

– Avoid touching surfaces.

  • Try to limit touching the commonly used materials and surfaces
  • Wash your hands with alcohol sanitizer or with soap and water for 20 minutes if you had to touch these surfaces
  • Do not touch your eye, nose or mouth without cleaning your fingers first.

– Practice social distancing.

  • When possible, consider traveling during non-peak hours when there are likely to be fewer people.
  • Follow social distancing guidelines by staying at least 6 feet (2 meters) from people who are not from your household.
  • Avoid gathering in groups, and stay out of crowded spaces when possible, especially at transit stations and stops.

Pre-OperativePreparation

  • If you have any underlying diseases: cardiovascular disease / diabetes / high blood pressure / asthma / cancer / or any allergic to any medications and any medicines you are taking, current treatment and correlating diagnosis, please inform physician in advance.
  • If you are taking anticoagulants like aspirin, Persantin®, Ticlid®, Plavix®, warfarin, Orfarin®, heparin, and Fraxiparine®, herbal supplements, and vitamins, especially vitamin E, stop these medications/supplements at least one week before the surgery or as recommended by your doctor.
  • If you smoke and drink alcohol regularly, please stop for at least one week before the surgery to reduce the chances of complications.
  • Please inform your doctor before the surgery if you have an existing medical condition for which you are taking medication and/or you have undergone any previous surgeries.

Types of payment

  • Payment can be made by self-payment, using health insurance or through a government/embassy sponsorship. More details about each type of payment can be found below.

SELF-PAY

If you are self-pay patient, we will give you the estimate of your medical treatment cost when you first contact to have appointment with Vejthani Hospital,

  • The estimatewill include all of the procedures and services of your treatment.
  • If you need additional treatment that is not included in the estimate, you may need to arrange for additional payment prior to receiving those services.
  • Full payment, based on the estimate, is required before any medical services can be rendered.
  • Payment must be made in THAI BAHT. You may pay by cash, credit card, debit card or wire transfer.
  • In case of using other currencies cash, please check whether it on our list and use our announced exchange rate.
  • The declaration with our customs department is needed when you arrive Thailand airport with cash or cash equivalent in any currency more than USD 15,000 (no limit for Thai Baht)

Refund policy

  • The deposit will be refunded when the procedure is done and there is excess amount.
  • Full refund of deposit for cancellation of procedure in advance and no setting up cost incurred.
  • If payment is made by cash / debit card / money transfer / wire transfer, the refund will be by cash / money transfer / wire transfer base on Thai Baht. There is no cost for cash / debit card / money transfer refund but the wire transfer is subjected to bank fee and bank exchange rate.
  • If payment is made by credit card, the refund will be through credit line and will be shown in your statement.

Payment methods;

For payment, Vejthani Hospital accepts:

  • Cash;in Thai Baht. In case of having other currencies, please check whether it on our list and use our announced exchange rate.
  • Wire Transfer;Must be done 5 business days in advance to verify receipt. Please contact your local referral office or the hospital for essential details of wire transfers application.
  • Credit Card / Debit Card;You can pay at the hospital with credit cards/debit cards using any of the following international payment networks: VISA, MasterCard, American Express, JCB and China UnionPay (CUP).

Please note: If you are having in-patient medical services, full payment based on estimate is required prior to having your medical treatment.

Non-Accepted payment methods;

Vejthani Hospital does not accept:

  • Personal Check / Entity Check / Traveler’s Check.
  • Non-Thai Debit Cards, except the debit card using one of the above system. Please contact your local referral office, coordinator or the hospital for more information.

INSURANCE

If you are paying through health insurance, please check the coverage with your insurance company to understand your benefits and make sure that Vejthani Hospital is included in their contracted provider. Before you call to schedule your appointment, please prepare your insurance card, insurance company name and policy number and aware of the following;

  • If Vejthani Hospital has an established agreement with your insurer, then payment conditions will be determined by that agreement. If not, you will be asked to pay for treatment first and then submit a claim to your insurer for reimbursement.
  • Packages and Promotions: These are not available for patients who are using insurance to pay for their procedures.  Package and promotional pricing is available only to those patients that self-pay for their procedures.

GOVERNMENT SPONSORSHIP

If you are sponsored by your government, you do not need to pay in advance, but you will need a guarantee letter or a letter of authorization from your embassy before you receive treatment.

Everyone’s safety and health is our main priority

Disease Investigation Point

Before entering the hospital, all customers and staff are required to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. There will be only two entrance-exit doors open on the ground floors which are the front-entrance and the back-entrance. Thus, everyone has to undergo the primary disease investigation with the thermo-scan camera in order to check the body temperature and history taking.

Hand Sanitizers

The hand sanitizers will be prepared for all customers in the hospital.

Clean and Sterilize

Frequent cleaning of the elevators, escalators, living area, and car parking cards with high efficiency antiseptic disinfectant will be carried out.

Acute Respiratory Infection Clinic

The hospital has prepared an Acute Respiratory Infection clinic, especially for the patients who have high fever (body temperature of 37.5°C or more) managed by the well trained medical team and staff for the suspected patients.

Providing Information

Posters and standees are set up in the hospital to educate and inform the customers about the disease.

In-Patient Manual Guide

Admission time

Patients can check-in anytime depending on the physician’s recommendation and the patient’s scheduled procedure(s). The room charges, services and meal plans will be effective on the first day of admission until 24 hours on the next day.

  • Please deposit the full estimated amount before you get admitted.
  • If the doctor allows you to be discharged, you have to pay all the expenses before leaving.
  • In case of longer duration of hospital stay due to any complication or unavoidable causes, please pay your bill every 3 days at the IPD cashier on the 7th floor.
  • You will be refunded if the actual bill is less than the estimated cost.
  • Please hand over the patient’s or relative’s passport to hospital officer.
  • If your visa has been expired, the hospital will precede further steps.

Vejthani Hospital would like to encourage the visitors who are visiting the hospital to follow these simple rules

VISITING THE REGULAR WARD

Patients staying in regular ward are not recommended to visit. In case of relatives or accompanies stay in the different rooms, visiting is allowed. (Twice a day (Morning and afternoon)).

Patients who are under quarantine can only be visited by their companions who came with them and were staying at separate rooms twice a day (Morning and afternoon). Visitors from outside are not allowed.

VISITING THE CRITICAL CARE UNITS

It is not permitted to visit a quarantined patient in a critical care unit, except in the event of emergencies or life-threatening conditions where the relative is required to be consulted for treatment on behalf of the patient.

  • Photography and videos are prohibited in the critical care department.
  • Necessary disinfecting measures should be carried out per instructions and regulations
  • Our patient’s safety is our priority, therefore we maintain a thoroughly sterilized operation theater and a well sanitized overall hospital environment for all our patients to ensure a safe and clean delivery of both medical and surgical services.

DEPARTURE

For some patients, physicians will provide the opinion that it is necessary to assess the readiness of the body before travelling to the country. We will provide Fit-To-Fly service done by specialized physicians. This ensures that you are safe throughout the flight.

We have an airport pick up service. Ticketing service is available in case you need it.

All we do is to provide you with the best service, good experience and safety in every step.

Patient will be discharged based on the time that they were admitted and will be given at least 4 hours to process for payment and acquisition of home medication and all medical reports.

Educational resources and medical advice

Our doctors will give you the educational resources and recommendations to follow at home before the discharge. The following list includes some of the important takeaways at discharge. Please do not hesitate to contact our doctor if you have any questions.

At discharge, patient will-

  • Be informed and educated about the drugs and medication that they have been given.
  • Be taught how to manage and adapt to the environment so that it does not affect their health condition; how to utilize community resources and deal with the economic and social problems which may affect their condition.
  • Understand the goal of treatment, learn how to observe their own symptoms and know when to notify the physician or nurse about significant symptoms. Patients will have sufficient knowledge to handle any emergency situations by themselves appropriately before arriving at a hospital.
  • Understand their own health status such as limitations and effect from their medical condition. Patients will be able to handle daily activities, cope with the health limitation, aid recovery and prevent complications from happening.
  • Understand and realize the importance of follow-up appointments. Patients should understand the need to ask for help in the case of emergency, as well as the treatment outcome and treatment plan to the other units which may be applicable.
  • Have the know-how in selecting nutritional food that is best for their health condition.

If the treatment must be continued at another healthcare facility, a summary of the given treatment at Vejthani Hospital will be given.

 

Checklist for discharge

After quarantine, Vejthani Hospital will provide the following documents and there will be a list of instructions to follow after leaving the hospital. You and your caregiver should read and understand the instructions.

  • Discharge summary
  • Medical report of your principal diagnosis and treatment
  • A list of all your medications and how and when to take them
  • Dates and times of medical appointments. Make sure you have the names and phone numbers of any providers you will see.
  • Who to call if you have questions, problems, or have an emergency.
  • Dietary instructions. What you can and cannot eat and if you need any special dietary requirements.

You must agree to the following conditions to request the Medical Records.

1. About Medical record

  • Medical records are highly confidential because of personal information. You have the right to access your own medical information. With some exceptions, health care providers will release a copy to you and your authorize representative.
  • To receive copies of a patient’s medical record, the patient must to sign an information letter to the hospital, and also attach a copy of the patient’s passport as proof of identity.
  • You have the right to request of your dependents (e.g. children) if they have not yet reached the age of 21. You can do this by providing the hospital with a copy of the guardian’s passport as well as the authorization letter, and submitting it with a copy of the child’s birth certificate. After the age of 21, a person must sign for their own records.

2. What information is in the medical record?

  • Medical certificate (please specify visit and purpose)
    Insurance or other medical form (please specify visit and doctor name) also scan us the blank form need to fill-in.
  • Copy of medical record (please specify visit and purpose)

3. Authorized person

Generally, only the patient can authorize the release of their own medical records. However, there are some exceptions to the rule, and generally the following can sign a release:

  1. Parent of a minor dependent under 18 years old
  2. Legal guardian: Must have a copy of the patient’s passport, including a copy of the birth certificate.
  3. Agent/Representative (someone you select to act on your behalf): Must have a copy of the patient’s passport, including patient’s authorization letter.

4. Required authorized documents for medical record

In the case of you request the medical record by yourself, on the day you pick up the records; we must be given a copy of your ID/passport. Sending the medical records by email is also possible but you will require to sign a consent form, allowing to distribute your records via electronic devices.

If a follow-up at the hospital is needed, we will make an appointment for a control visit at the outpatient clinic. In case discharged, we will give the patient instructions to make the appointment for the follow-up at outpatient clinicor for the physician who referred to hospital treatment.

For removal of sutures, nurse will make appointment as the physician direct.

In case of return to the country, we are following up symptoms at home via phone, email or other means is skype or zoom. But for referred out cases, we will contact the hospital directly.

Patients and Medical travel patients who refuse all types of diagnostic, treatment both inpatient and outpatient; Patients and Medical travel patients have to follow the hospital policy by signing “Consent: Against Medical Advice”

It is possible that you might need to do follow-up rehabilitation at home after you are discharged. For such cases, the necessary equipment such as hospital bed, wheelchair or commode chair could be provided at your own expenses.

We offer complimentary transportation service for our patients and family members to Suvarnabhumi Airport (SUV) or Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). Please note: The booking must be arranged not less than 24 hours before your travel date.

Referral and Aviation Division can assist for arrangements of your flights, transportation, accommodation and tour reservations by coordinating with travel agency that meet the hospital’s safety and service quality standards
